Volvo SX trim sender signal jumps

I have a 2000 volvo penta 5.0 with sx outdrive. I replaced the exhaust and Gimble bellows yesterday. When I put things back together I think the trim sensor (the actual sensor part that spins) got spun around. Now when I put the unit into the side of the housing and rise and lower the unit the reading goes from 100% up then jumps to 100% down when I raise and lower the outdrive. There is no in between. Did I break the sensor or is there a sensitivity adjustment somewhere?
