Hi, I have a 1976 50hp mercury motor and have just replaced the power head. during which I removed the top of flywheel has I was having issues with getting the whole flywheel off. I think when I put the cover back on the flywheel it might be out of alignment. Can anyone explain I how I check it that it is correct and how to realign if it is incorrect? thanks

welcome aboard

the key in the crank aligns with the groove in the flywheel.

NO-----He is saying he took the 8 bolts out for the flex plate !!-------Put # 1 to TDC and use timing marks.-------Or use paint / rust stains on flex plate and hub to see where it was.
