Just purchased a boat . it has a tach in console but not hooked up. I am not sure who mfg the tach. the emblem is 2 vertical lines with a T in between them. I have a mercury 4 cyl 40 Hp engine and not sure where to set the pole switch on back. it has 4,8,10 and 12 pole. If I can figure out who made it I will contact them. Thanks for any help

Sounds like you have an older Teleflex Tach.

Does it look like the emblem on this tach pictured?

yes same T. thinking of cutting off plug and crimp or solder straight to tach. Not sure that is the way to go.Just not sure of pole setting. Teleflex marine has been bought out by someone and I left them an e mail to help with pole setting.

Merc's are typically 12 poles

Took the boat out today. set tach on 12 poles and it worked perfectly. Little cool on the lake at 20 mph. Didn't stay out long, about 25 min.
