I have a 2000 Bayliner Capri 2050 LX that the tack is stuck on 6,000 RPM no matter what. I have tried to look into the wiring of it and how to check it with no luck on the subject. Im pretty handy with electronics but this would be a first when it comes to boat gauges.

I have no idea where to start other than checking for power at the gauge itself which the tach does not have, and no idea were the tachometer gets its reading from on the engine.

Would help to know what motor you have? the motor has the impact on the wiring more then the boat.

In most cases your looking for a gray wire which come from the negative side of the coil to the tach. The tach also need 12V and a ground. Being at 6K I would say the tach is bad ifi its always that way

Assuming its not EFI or MPI with the newest 14 pin connector
It is a Gray wire going from the - side of the coil thru the 10 pin connector on pin 2 and to the tach
