Hello everyone! I am new to iboats, and I just purchased my first boat! It’s not a newer boat but it’s new to me! I am doing my best to get the engine running right now. I’ve tracked down the problem to not getting spark at the coil, or rather from the coil to the distributor. I have already replaced the coil but that did not solve the problem. The engine I am working on is the 2.5 L four-cylinder 120 hp Chevy GMC engine. I believe it’s referred to as a MerCruiser. Any help would be much appreciated, and thank you!

welcome aboard

its almost never ever ever the coil.....ever.....as in only about 3 coils out of a million changed were actually bad

what year? if you have points, you need to service the points.

if you have points, at a minimum you need to file them, gap them, adjust as required per dwell meter, then set timing.

go to links 18-20 in the following sticky: https://forums.iboats.com/forum/eng...ion-for-diyers-an-work-safe-search-version-of

If you have electronic ignition, do you have 12 volts at the coil(purple wire)?

also, you should have posted your question in the Mercruiser forum.
