I am looking to buy a fish finder next week and need some help/advice or possibly a kick in the butt.

Boat is 24ft aluminum pontoon

mostly fish fresh water on TVA lakes(lot's of steep banks, not a lot of shallow water)

would use once a year for a week in salt water, (inside of the Crystal coast)

5 ft to 150 ft water

would like depth reading also

would like a basic chart plotter to use for A to B navigating (have compass and paper map back up)

have read about 50hz/200hz and the different cone patterns etc.,

Budget is $500 or so, the last week I have looked at everything offered in my price range and still can not make a decision

any words of advice?

Thanks

I really like the new Lowrance Hook2 series. For a simple map plotter, I would choose the Lowrance Hook2 7x Tripleshot

I have the Garmin 4cv Plus. Can't beat all the features for the price, and the Quickdraw maps works great. It doesn't come pre-loaded with maps though; you make your own as you drive.

In that price range the best bang for the buck is the Garmin GPSMAP 840xs.

Add a P66 transom mount transducer ($100) and you’ll have a good quality unit complete with detailed mapping of lakes and Coast line

So I ended up going with the Garmin Echo 93sv Plus, got a good deal on it and I have now tripled the boats worth

($500 pontoon) It has lakes pre-loaded and came with transducer etc

Hope to play with it in the next week or so
