I am new to boating, boat a 2001 glastron sx 195 last thursday. The engine seems to run great. We took it out of water and I looked at the bottom but it was discolored from the water and I didn't notice any cracks. I was looking for blistering which I found a few that need repaired but was told that was not a big issue from a glastron dealership. I was informed to do a compression test and a test drive. The shop I took it to to change to oil said I should sell it and he thought the vec hull had separated. I am now having a glastron dealer look at it, they took a few pictures and are going to have their fiberglass guy look at it when they can hoist it in the air. I didn't know to look for anything else and I didn't notice the cracks until the boat was dried and they pointed them out. I'm just nervous I wasted all my money on a boat that is junk.

I've attached some pics.

That looks a bit ugly. If it was mine, I would dremmel it out, fill, & fair.

But this thing is, its not clear if the glass structure under the gell coat is compromised. You would know if it returns after doing the above.

Smarter people than me will soon chime in.

In the image....is there some kind of metal bracket there pressing up on the hull?

That was my tape measure. I was trying to get a scale of the crack. My worry is it is structural and would cost more than I can afford to fix and I wasted 9000 dollars.

Ahhh I see now.

I don't think you have to panic yet. It may be just the gell coat cracked from some kind of impact. Dig it out with a dremmel tool:

Fill with thickened epoxy, sand it smooth, paint it if you want. But mostly see if it comes back. In most cases, your good.

I'm not a pro but from what I understand about the VEC hulls, the pix show some substantial and serious damage to your hull. Repairs could be extensive and expensive. I could be wrong. You should go online and do some research about the VEC hull technology.
