A buck a clamp must be for the alligator type, The final stages of the wales will approach 5 1/2" wide, so i need C or Bar clamps, I see HF has 12" bar clamps for 3.99 and 6" for 2.99...seems like the best deal i can find....a few dozen of those, plus what i have should do it.

I kept the coves all relatively small and tight, especially at the transom and front bulkhead because im planning to cover the transom and bulkhead with 1/4" x 4" oak appearance boards, and varnished to simulate a planked transom.

Don't just throw a dozen of those into your cart and check out, work each clamp through it's entire range to make sure it's a good clamp. Last time I bought those clamps, I rejected half of them as the screw wasn't smooth or the bar had a defect causing it to bind....

Yea, good call on that, their metal and machining sucks...usually, if it doesnt have a motor or a switch on it, I do fairly well at HF..

Thanks!

Where are you finding 1/4” oak? Or are you reshaping yourself? Cheers

Home Depot and Lowes both carry 1/4 and 1/2 red oak boards from 2" wide to 6" or 8"...but only up to 4' long

Home Depot calls it hobby wood I think.

look into pallets, there mostly oak and if you look hard enough quite a few are nailed with extremely small staples so you can get them plane them and save money :)

Go to your local cummins or cat dealer. Engine skids are oak and they have to pay to dispose of them

Truckers use a LOT of 4x4 oak to keep their loads from moving around. I found a place that supplies them. I can buy 4x4x8 ft red oak rough sawn for $5.00 bucks. Sure, it has some knots but I just cut em out or work around em. I've gotten a LOT of nice wood from them.
