Carpenter bees are the devil's termites. I hate them.

If you find a carpenter bee hole, stuff some steel wool in it. they will chew threw it, but will ingest tiny fragments of it and it will kill them. Carpenter bees vary from other bees and wasps as they do not have a queen. Females do all the burrowing, so as this kills the females, it kills the colony's ability to expand.

For a more instant gratification, stand around until they fly out of the hole and see how far you can smack it. Extra points if you make it go in 2 different directions.

Zool, Spira boats has a good instructional guide to registering boats made by a private party and a carpenter’s certificate you can print.
Cheers

Update:

I finished fitting the foam board for the side core and tucked in the wire harness.

Then I glued and screwed the deck pieces in.

The port side is glued and screwed, the starboard side is just set for now..Im gonna use heavier ply for the front stowage area because I plan no notch in some cross boards to support the front cap.

After that I need to cove all the seams with thickened resin, and tape all the seams.

I put in an order for 2 more gallons of epoxy, and 10 yds of 60" wide 6 oz cloth....

did you think of running conduit vs just a harness in the event you need to replace the harness in about 20 years?

Thanks Kev..

Hey Scott...I did, and 3/4 OD conduit would have fit......theres actually plenty of room between the foam to pull a new harness thu, if needed, but in the end, the wire will probably last as long as the pine this is built with..The harness comes out the side, under the rear port seat where the battery will be, and in the front stowage area....it would be pretty much a straight pull..

ok, just checking. finding that as we build things better than any factory, we look at longevity of sub-systems like wiring.....for the time we let the magic smoke out...

I hear ya, plus it would look more custom if I had terminated in conduit junction boxes....all I had on hand was 3/4 ID pvc, which would bulge.....

they would have to be surface mounted, only 3/4" space in the core.....Im just gonna run them into a fuse bar...under the seat.

Looking really great and I expect it will last a lot longer than you’re projecting.with the seams treated as you’re doing and coating all exposed wood with resin before painting, it will last longer than most commercially available boats. Keep up the great work!
Cheers!

Just waiting on the USC order, but I did glue and crew the other side panels in. I also gotta source some oak for the inwales and outwales....I now have a kinda, sorta plan to fabricate them.
