Hi, i am new to this thread. I just recently picked up an old starcraft aluminum boat. I believe its a 1962 but dont know how to figure this out. The boat is white and teal, has a 40 hp johnson motor also believed to be a 1962 also. I will post pictures up asap but wanted to know if there was anyway to find it on the boat. This will be my first restoration project. Already have pulled out the floor and put new down. Motor just got done being gone threw and is ready for the water. Im sure i will have a lot of question as to replacing parts and or any suggestions along the way. Thanks blake

Welcome to iBoats!

Without pics it's gunna be real tough to help you determine what you have. Are there any ID tags, HIN#'s etc on the boat? Look under the dash, on the transom behind/under the control box etc... Motor should have Model and serial#'s to help ID it.

Does anyone have any idea on year or model?

The title says 1962 star craft. 14 ft. I will measure it tonight but think it's probably 16 feet?

I would have guessed a Jupiter. Compare the measurements on your boat (length, beam, transom), with the measurements listed on this page, or on the page posted by GA Boater: fiberglassics

I tried go measure but it's a little hard by myself. Seems to be really close to 17 ft from nose to tail. Anyway there are a few questions that I had. Does anyone know a good place to find a replacement window for these boats and also what cable do they recommend to put in new steering cable. Thanks!!

Good luck finding a windshield. I replaced mine with a walk-thru found on CL.

Do you have cable/pulley steering?

Yes it has the cable pulley steering. I know it's probably not the safest steering but I really dig that old school look. I havnt had any luck finding a windshield either. I have been thinking about taking it off and using it that way but not sure.

I think it could be a stardust but still hard to tell. I was wondering what you guys thought about a 40hp. Looks like the boat and the motor are both the way it came from the factory. Took the motor to a 2 stroke guy around me and said the motor was in great condition and runs strong. What kind of speed will I be able to get out of the 40 Johnson.

Cable/pulley steering was used on racing boats long after the newfangled cable and steering box types came out. You can buy new cable/springs/pulleys here on iboats.

A 40 may give you upper 20's speed, close to 30.

Stardust has two bench type seats, while the Starmist has two back to back lounge seats like yours. Also Stardust has no floor, Stardust does - Again like yours. All purely a guess, but the color and layout seem to fit.

Welcome aboard the iboats dry dock! :welcome:

I would have to agree with Bluefin, you have a Jet there.

From the pictures I have seen of the jet they have just one side step. This boat has 2 side step plates. One in the front one in the read. Any how does anyone know what kind of speed to expect from a boat like this with a 40 hp on it.

Thanks boater. I think you may be correct. I would love to see 30 out of the boat but wasn't sure if it could

I'm playing devils advocate here. I don't the think the lower rub rail was changed from red. What color are your rub rails, Blake?
