Hi all
I'm impressed with all the knowledge and goodwill of the majority of people on this site. Many posts ive read have helped me start a restoration of a 1971 winner minikai.
This is my first boat and I am thrilled to be working on it(even tearing out rotten transom)! I've got a lot of questions and would greatly appreciate any answers and suggestions. I will start with pictures and questions. Thank you in advance for helping out.

Most people use photobucket. I'm pretty sure you can upload them to photobucket from your iphone.

Re: Winner minikai

Hi
I removed transom it was rotten.

The floor seems really strong but I would like to see at least some of it. I drilled out a 3" hole saw to check it out.
I've searched for a diagram / pictures of a minikai flow to see what fibreglass box stringers layout is. I'd like to cut out a few rectangles ( with saw set at 45 degrees) to inspect, remove all plastic bottles, clean,repair/ put coat of resin on then put 2 part pourable marine foam. Is this a good idea? Will it add a lot of weight (4 lb foam)?
I'm hoping it will make it stronger and safer.
Then I would also like to clean, add resin and glass to inside of bow, side walls and floor- to also strengthen it up. Good idea?
After that I'll paint complete interior and topside with grey brightside. Bow with some anti slip. Also good idea?
Thanks for looking

I forgot that I couldn't really find a diagram or pictures of fibreglass box stringer system. Does anyone know where I'd find info/ pics on it? Thanks

Hello M71!

Restoring an old boat that has seen better days is always a good idea, especially if it has rot.

Removing your decking and checking for stringer rot is a good thing to do, transom and stringer rot usually go "hand-in-hand". Installing expanding foam is a good thing too.

You should takes lots of pictures of your boat while you work on it. Take pictures as you take it apart, and then as you put it back together. It's easier for us to help you when you do it this way. Please make your pictures bigger than the little thumbnails you have in photobucket now, some of us are kinda old here and we don't see as well as we used to.

We need to see the pics as your take your boat apart so we can give you the best suggestions for putting it back together.

Lookingg forward to seeing this project progress.

Re: Winner minikai

Yep! More than likely your pics are too large... join Photobucket for free and host your pics there and then post them here for nice big pics like this:

Re: Winner minikai

In the settings for a photobucket acct, you can select AUTO-SIZE

Under the pix in photobucket you want to post there are several choices of codes to copy, choose the bottom 1: IMG
Code:
There's a box next to that w/ an image code that looks something like this:

IMG]http://i1246.photobucket.com/albums/bcurt00/2885790271u_1x424x360f1326433034.jpg[/IMG]

Copy that code & paste it in your thread posts, and the image appears embedded in you post:

I have no idea what you tried to paste into your post above (#13), but it didn't process into a pix

Re: Winner minikai

Go to your photobucket & hover the mouse over the pix you want to post.

4 choices of codes appear
the bottom one is IMG code
theres a white box next to IMG code
if you click the text in that box, the text changes to COPIED
come back to your post window
click the right mouse button in the post you are writing wherever you want the pix to appear
choose paste from the choices the right mouse button brings up
it pastes the IMG code that looks like this:

IMG]http://i1355.photobucket.com/albums/Minikai7171/b9-1.jpg[/IMG]

And the pix appears in your post:

If you're using the "new" photo bucket you'll see a cog in the top right hand corner of every pic, put your cursor on it and you'll get a drop down menu.

Click on Get Media Links, then you'll get another menu of codes.

Click on the bottom IMG code and it will flash copied. You can now paste that IMG code in a thread reply.
