Leaning post looks like it will work for ya.

You may want to soften up the corners on the base, could be ankle and toe busters. Also make sure to seal the wood with something like spar varnish.

The other thing you may want to do is when installing the new floor put an extra layer below where the post will attach.

thought i was reading my thread for a second, nice looking boat and the cc is way awesome,I have a 1971 cc starcraft mariner that really was a cc when it was made.I had to totally rebuild mine too.heres a few pics to compare.cant wait to see it in the water.I have 2 doors in the front fishing deck and a chair.I used loc tite and nylon threaded nut to secure everything under the floor so it wouldnt rattle loose later on.SANY0128.jpgSANY0025.jpgSANY0018.jpg1st day of pajam rebuild 001.jpgDSCF9806.jpg

Nice work!!! What a pain it was trying to get that console secure, huh??? Looks so familiar. Have you always had the controls on the left?? I thought about doing that but being right handed, I wasn't sure I'd get the grip of it quick enough.

Anyone have any experience using this stuff??? it's a rubberized floor paint for a boat. I like the sound of it. I need something to seal off the top of the wood and eliminate any gaps between boards, console and floor, lean post and floor. I would like to keep the water out of cracks so it just runs back to the bilge and out.

the console was easy compared to the cutting the floor just right. I had to use what i had for the controls and yes its a left hand mount but i really dont have a problem with it at the lake.but im also a waiter who carries two big trays at a time with both hands to the tables. So im kinda a lefty too.your boat is so sweet.012.jpg
this is a more recent pic of reel skills but its been through alot of work since this pic.

my mariner is a original center console, cant find these no more. you can tell by the bow piece that makes the under floor brace.SANY0127.jpg

Not a very productive day yesterday but I did manage to get a few things done. I fastened down the bow floor and screwed down the rest of the floor to the cleats we put under each piece. Everything should be solid now.

Next step is floor paint / rubber and we can start adding in the bow seats, side panels, and rear sliding doors. After that, it's time to possibly paint the hull, if we have time. Only two months to go. Lots of time off because of cold weather.

Just went through your thread. Lookin' good Jacob. I'm just starting a redesign on a 14.5 ft. and was strongly considering a CC as well for the same reasons as yourself. Width was my biggest concern. What is the width (inside measurement) of your boat at the gunwale and at the deck?

Without actually going out there and measuring it (Boat is about 45 miles away at the moment). I would say I have about 20" on either side of the console, give or take. The console is 24" in width with an additional 4" casing on the right side to cover up the control cables / steering cable. My lean post is 30" in width, there is also room to walk around either side of that to get to the stern.

The CC is a great set up, I am loving it already and am not even on the water yet!!!!

I think you're seeing chalk-lines to mark stringer location...judging by fastener location.

WE used cleats between the floor sections as well as fastening to the two stringers. It's three sections of floor board.

This weekend we started framing in the bow seat / deck. We started by creating a template out of 1/4 ply. Our next goal was to frame in the old metal from the existing seats. Where your feet used to go will be converted to storage. It's harder to imagine in these shots, but you'll see it better down the road.

Sunday we had a chance to paint the bow floor, attach the bow deck and fasten everything down. We were able to cut out the storage hatch.

Mounting the bow deck was tricky, we had to reinforce the old aluminum bow framing so we could attach to something. We also had to reinforce the old bow seat brackets that were attached to the hull with some oak strips. This gave us something to screw into. In the previous set of pictures, you can see the small oak blocks used.

Once the bow was completed and fastened down, it was time to paint the deck and floor. We were able to get 2-3 coats on the floor because the sun had this stuff drying within 5 minutes. We decided to use regular garage floor paint and mixed in a bag of the grip powder. We are going to paint the floor, seats, and console with this. It covers up the blemishes nicely.

After the paint dried, we started putting back our rear slider doors and side panels. The rear doors were a pain in the you know what. We had to trim and re-drill everything becasue the new floor is thicker. It ended up working out.
