How do I restore the finish aftertaking off hull graphics?

I have a 88' Hobie Power Skiff. It has been covered to the water line while on a hoist it's whole life. So the hull shows little degradation from the sun. My question is: After I remove the hull graphics, how do I remove the "gloss halo" that inevitably will be left. My goal (if this is possible) is to have no visible remnant from the hull graphics. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi....nice boat !

you will more than likely see some sun fade from around the graphics.

it will take some sanding with 600 grit on the transition area.....then a work up to 1500.....and finally a buff and polish

Thanks! It's a fun little boat. Very seaworthy and well built. I've never attempted this on a glass boat before, so I'm just a bit leery. Would I use a DA sander or just block sand it?

Mostly hand work with a sanding block, lots of water and desire to get it done.

Sadly when graphics are removed......you will almost every time have shadows.

The alternative is to take pictures, have new vinyl graphics cut (locally), remove your old ones, polish the hull and appy the new graphics.

There really are not any shortcuts to this manual labor!!
