Welcome sphelps. You're in the right place. The foolks here can walk you through virtually any issue you may have. The pics look fine to me. Great little boat there. I love the hardtop/windshield combo. That's worth at least 20 style points all by itself. Good luck. Keep us posted.......

I see a couple of issue right off the bat:

1) The can of WD-40 needs to be complimented by a roll of duct tape
2) You need at least one empty beverage can in that hull

Neat hull. I think my first order of business would be installing a proper bow eye!

Welcome to iBoats!

I love the old classics! Your design should allow you to replace the transom, sole/deck, and stringers without removing the cap. That makes things a whole lot easier. Do you have the splashwell for her? Is the Sole/Deck spongy or solid? Do you plan on keeping her original or are you going to modernize her? Let us know how we can help.

Can't believe no one has asked this yet, but how the outboard? I think I'd check out the power before going too deep into the hull. Unless you have other outboards to use or know it's okay.

Nah, these Old Girls are Soooooo purty you jest float em and let ever body admire em.
We don't need no Stinkin Motor!!!!

Seriously, though, CW is spot on, Do you have a motor for her? If not she's probably rated for somewhere between 40-70 hp. You can find those on Craigslist pretty easy.

Nice! I like old MFG's... Especially the lapstrake designs like yours... And- the hardtop- you LUCKY DOG. Those are hard to come by...

You don't need luck- You've already got WD-40, all you need is a roll of duct tape and this-

If you haven't found them already, you should be able to find the original brochure for your boat here-

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Wow! You guys don't miss a thing! First off thanks for the welcome I really appreciate it!! Now i will give more info. The empty is a miller 64 I'm on a diet. Duct tape I have but prefer red poly tape. I do have 70 crysler my dad put on it he said he liked it because it ran quietly . Now it's real quiet ! It did run before it got parked needs starter. The floor seems very solid but the transom is gone my dad had repaired years ago. I like the idea of keeping original but am really thinking of installing a fiberglass bracket with small swim platform. Good or bad idea?

An outboard swim platform like one of these http://www.iboats.com/Boat-Parts-Ac...-**********.757155519--submit.x.0--submit.y.0 would be great. I'm putting one on my boat before the Spring. Consider having your starter repaired at an automotive electric shop. A lot of the internals are probably standard and it will probably be cheaper and easier than trying to source a replacement.

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Thanks for the input! I have found new aftermarket starter on line for 75 bucks just have not ordered yet. I really would like a custom bracket like from hermco. or maybe build one myself.

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Can anyone tell me if I am crazy or stupid for wanting to build a motor bracket with a 24" setback that is poured with seacast . The bracket and transom will be integrated and weight transferred to boat bottom. I drew some sketches hope they readable . Not sure the correct height from boat bottom to top of new transom??? Is this do-able Also where do you measure from for shaft length on motor ?? From prop center to top of mount bracket??? Don't know I am very outboard green! Thanks everyone!

Heres a photobucket link for those who couldn't get attatchment

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

On a boat of this vintage, I would think building a POD for the outboard would not be advisable. Those things can really change the dynamics of the way a boat handles and the engineering of that boat would be highly suspect for handling the modifications you are proposing. JMO.

I have looked at a lot of your posts .You really know your stuff .I myself don't know much about engineering or boat building. So I find all info from you guys very very helpfull! This offset bracket idea was my brothers idea to start. I thought about it for awhile and liked the idea of more useable room in the cockpit. I researched many types and brands of brackets they all claimed would improve performance ,gas, handling,ect... I saw youtube video of this guys boat with bracket project the thing was porpoising badly in light chop! He seemed to like the way it performed. I certainly don't want that! I have not completely ruled a bracket out but leaning towards not. Anyway I am still going to start prep for seacast pour . Moved boat into shelter I need a higher ceiling ruff on back! Here some pics...

Am I going to have to replace the whole bow eye and liftring or maybe replace parts?
