Free Boat, must need restoring, where to start....

Hi all,

My father-in-law bought a boat about 10 years ago and never once put it in the water.
He has dementia now and can't tell me what type of boat it is, what he paid for it, what year the motor was made,
and the boat has been sitting in the elements for the better part of 5 years. It has a tarp some parts but that is it's only
protection. I discovered a wild hair today at work and decided to dig into the possibility of restoring the boat and getting it
out on the water. I have researched the engine, it is a Johnson Super Seahorse Electromatic. I understand how to date them
using the model numbers, now I just have to find the model numbers haha.
I would like some input on where to start with this project....
Do I just back the trailer into the water and see if it floats as a starting point? OR is there a better way?
NO visible cracks, holes etc... however, we have had a great deal of rain and there is no water in the boat. Does that mean it won't float?
Sorry for the newbie questions, I greatly appreciate any and all input.

Best,

I can see that it has a 1975 California registration sticker.
I will post pics tomorrow. It is late here but again any advice on where to begin with my
restoration project or first steps would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time.

Welcome to iBoats WR!!

Best thing to start is to post some pics so we can see what you're working with. There's a link in my signature below on how to post em.

Thanks Woodonglass for the welcome.
I will post pics at some point tomorrow.
It might be late when I get them uploaded but I am looking
forward to the experience that this forum has to offer.
