I am in the process of rebuilding (new deck, engine compartment etc) an 18' bow rider. The engine runs on land, but I would like to float test the boat and run at a no-wake speed in a lake environment. My question is, does anyone know if I am required to reassemble the engine compartment before putting it on the water for legal reasons? The pieces are all cut, but I was hoping to not have to put it all together yet just to get it on the water and make sure there are no leaks. I will be doing this in the state of Pennsylvania if that makes any difference.

Thanks for any insight you may have!

Call the local authorities to make sure, but I can't see where the engine covers off would be a problem for a test run.
