Re: Project log : Runabout to Fishing machine

Here's where I'm at.

I'm pulling wire like crazy. 3 batteries, 2 pumps, and lighting equals more wire than I thought was possible in such a little boat. Curently the trolling motor wiring, batteries to battery switch, nav, deck, and livewell/storage lights, Bilge and livewell pumps are done, fuse box is in and fed. The steering cable is in place.

Today's list is to test fit the helm and steering wheel and drill the holes for the gauges and dash switch panel. Them seal all the wood edges with epoxy. Also on the list is the motor harness, speedo tube, and transponder wire for the depth finder.

Ok, I'm off now to get busy and take some pictures.

Thanks for all the great info & pix. Great for reference! I'm still convinced that you'll get blank, dumbfounded stares when you tell people you built all the structure from the hull up yourself. Might ought to keep a laminated set of pix on the boat for proof.:) Great work, thanks again as always!

Can you still get USCG plates for 'home-built' boats? This should definitely count....

I seem to remember reading that in a thread or on a DNR website when I was trying to figure my HIN & title stuff out. But it may have been a state DNR tag & HIN plate together for titling & licensing purposes.

Good luck getting all that stuff done today. Several steps closer!

Re: Project log : Runabout to Fishing machine

here's where I landed yesterday. the wiring is about 90% done including the on-board charger. dash is cut and ready for gauges, switches and helm. I'm hoping to get all that wired today. I didn't get to the speedo tubing and transponder wiring yesterday, so that's still on the list. and I need to wrap bundle up all the loose wired under the dash area.

Here's where I left off yesterday.

I even picked up a cool neighbor in the garage for a few days.

Wow that is how I like wiring to look. Nice job!!!

I know that I will have a "rats nest" of wiring to go through on my project.

Re: Project log : Runabout to Fishing machine

I had another productive day today. The speedo pickup and tubing are done as well as the depth finder transducer and power wiring. The gauges and helm are in, as well as the switches. I still have to do the wiring on the gauges themselves, but the rest of the dash is done and bundled up. The only thing left to install in the dash is the kill switch and livewell timer.

Up next is a hole for the motor harness and shift/throttle cables to exit the side wall into the control box, horn install, the hatch hardware, rear tow eyes, and the rub rail insert.

Re: Project log : Runabout to Fishing machine

That is some amazing work. Did you build the console or is it a pre-fab?

Once you are completed and get to enjoy that beauty once again, you should create a how-to book complete with your photos and steps, etc. Get it published and I will bet you could be in every West Marine and BOW across the country.

Re: Project log : Runabout to Fishing machine

Thanks guys!

That's a pretty basic Lowrance X96 unit, No GPS for me yet. I may step up later on, but this will do just fine for the lakes around NJ. I do plan on getting the Navionics application for my phone. That should be OK as a backup for now.
