Re: 16' 68 Starcraft Trident Project!!
Well im sure you saw the pics of the holes i found in the hull while grinding. I backed them up with mylar and foam taped them in place and applied the gel coat first before the layers of glass. I did end up using the oak as I didnt get much response and it seemed the best choice as it will be completely encapsulated as you stated. I cannot imagine having issues if its water tight... Too late to argue that now.. Anyway, I coated the back side with resin, then 1.5oz mat and sealed the edges. I mixed up bucked of resin with cab o sil, and 1/4" chopped fibers for renforcement and put a thick layer on the skin and transom then clamped using 2x4's Ive seen others on here use - they worked great. I had pb coming out of every orafice. I then mixed up another bucket o resin and filled in around the edges pushing that good stuff in all the way and smoothing it out at the edge. I have not started tabbing yet, but my plan for the backside is as follows: resin, 1.5 oz, 9 oz cloth, 1.5 oz, 9 oz cloth then finish it off with 18oz roving. I planned to extend the overlap to the boat about 2", is that sufficient??
Thanks for the questions, and interest!!
