Had a slight mishap and the front motor mount bolts pulled up outta the stringers.. It didnt hurt the stringers at all just pulled the bolts out.. How would I go about repairing the bolt holes to hold bolts again?

Epoxy. Drill the holes larger to fresh wood and fill with epoxy then re-drill pilot holes for the lag bolts.

If you drill the holes larger....... mix the epoxy inside a gallon zip lock bag and then do what a pastry chef does and cut a corner of the bag open...... it will give you some accuracy when shooting it into a hole.

Ok, So what filler and hardener should I use? I also have a couple small spots on the bottom of the hull that need repaired from when the boat hit the ground. The worst spot is about 4 inches long by 3 inches wide and about a 1/4 of an inch deep. Can I use the same epoxy/filler combo on this to or do I need to use fiber mat/cloth?

Motor mount box replacement question.

Motor mount box replacement question.

Ok, so the lag screws pulled up outta the motor mount boxes due to an accident on the highway. I pulled the engine today and thought all I was going to have to do was drill the existing holes and epoxy dowels in them to hold new lag screws. Well, once the engine was out and upon further inspection, I found that the port side mount box is broke loose from the hull. I cut the fiberglass around the box and removed it. I went to a wood working shop today and baught the epoxy for doing the dowel job, and I am wondering if I can use this same epoxy to re-adhere a new motor mount box to the hull. The guy at the store sold me west sytems g-5 epoxy adhesive.. Will this work or do I need to take it back and get the 105 epoxy...

This is turning out to be a bigger nightmare than I thought..

Thanks

some pics of what you are dealing with would be helpful. We cannot SEE your problem like You can. I suspect that the Expoxy will be fine BUT you will probably need to do some grinding and also use some glass cloth for added strenght. Picture is worth a thousand words doncha know

Merged your threads...... not quite sure about the G 5 and still would use 105

I read this and decided that G 5 IS NOT what you want
" Not recommended for long-term bonds subject to high loads or moisture. " I read that here on the west system site http://www.westsystem.com/ss/g5/

Re: Motor mount lag bolts pulled out!!!

Ok, thanks. Its just a 50 mile drive to the shop that has the epoxy and I really didnt want to have to go there again, but I really would rather not have to pull the motor again to do it right. So, I guess I will have to drive over there and exchange the g-5 for the 105..

Re: Motor mount lag bolts pulled out!!!

I still say if the box has pulled away from the hull and you said your self and I quote "I cut the fiberglass around the box and removed it." You need to re-glass the box back into the hull. Epoxy by itself will NOT be enough to hold it. Epoxy by itself is NOT structural. With out glass, when it hardens it is VERY BRITTLE and fractures very easily. It NEEDS to be re-Glassed.

I'm just sayin...
