Anyone out there know any history on the quartermaster models? I just finished putting my floor back in and I am working on replaceing the rotted interior panels and such this weekend. I want start on the exterior but the weather is not cooperating . I will post photos of my progress later.
I would like to know what the originall inboard engine cover looked like.
Mine is a 1978 with a Volvo AQ130d with the 280 outdrive. :)

Where a stringer should have been present. This is in the bilge right infront of the gas tank.

Transom all cleaned up.

New ply laminated in. Funny how fast you run out of clamps.

All three sections glassed in.

So I will slowly but surely update this thread so that it is current with where I actually am with my progress.
I have choosen to use West System epoxy. With their measured pumps. And love the lack of measuring and guessing. Counting pumps is nice except for when a door to door sales guy interupts your count. LOL.

Here are my stringers set in place. I went with cedar after all the reading of the plus and minuses. I figured that since my stringers would be completely glassed in that I would bed the deck to the top of them with epoxy. Originally they only glassed up the sides. I took several measurements from the bottom of the hull to the top of what was left of the stringers.

OK, I need all of your opinions. I'm going to drill and or unscrew the button snaps for the non existent top. Should I fill the holes in and let the person who makes the new top put new holes in ? Or should I leave the holes and paint over them; then reinstall the button snaps? Just curious as to what has worked best for you guys. Thanks.

Looking sharp Allbut! What did you use to sand the exterior? What do you plan to paint it with?

Re: 1978 Bayliner Quartermaster

Chuck, Thanks. I used my DA sander with 100 grit. I plan to follow up with 220 by hand but I may have to use 150 to speed up the process. On the top side I have been hand sanding with 220 and scotch brite medium. I used bleach water with the scotch brite to kill the moss.
I am going to use Pettit Easypoxy white on the top side. The red stripe will be replaced with Pettit Easypoxy electric blue. For the bottom I will use the Pettit 4700 protect high build primer kit. Topped off with Pettit Vivid white antifouling.
