Hey, fellas...

Look what I found!

I ended up having a snow day on Friday so I decided to go down and check it out. She was located at a scrap yard and the asking price was $700. The owner was a heck of a nice guy and we chewed the fat for a bit, haggled some, and I almost walked away from the deal. Well, I ended up driving away with it for $450.

Overall the hull seems to be in great shape. It's pretty dirty from the slushy/dirty/wet roads on Friday. I did find one sort of deep gouge that might need some attention.

Here is what is under the hood...

OMC 120hp. The guy who brought it to the yard said that it was in running condition. Ah, I'm not holding my breath.

The interior is rough, very rough. But, there were a couple of Walker Electric Downriggers in there! Cool!

Here are two out of my three:

McKenna, 5

Ryan, 3

Ethan, 1.5 (it was his nap time)

McKenna thought that I should paint the boat pink, purple and blue.

They ran into the cabin area and yelled out "HEY YOU COULD EVEN SLEEP IN HERE!"

A couple of minutes later McKenna screamed "EHHHHHAAAH, A MOUSE!!!!".

She later named him Squeeker and they were friends.

We went sledding a couple of minutes after this photo - there is something very interesting about combining boats and sledding.

Welcome to the Starcraft club. GREAT hull. You are not going to hear good things about parts support for that OMC stringer. I'd look into what I convert it to. Great boat though and definitely a worthwhile project.

I see you managed to get it home with the same number of wheels you started out with. Got me and my friend beat!!

I'll tell you what EZ...

I thought about your 2 wheel adventure the whole way home! I actually almost walked away from the deal because I wasn't sure that I could even get it home. The hull had several inches of ice in the bottom (lots of extra weight), tires have been sitting for better than a year (maybe two), unknown condition of the bearings, one tire was very weather checked. I gritted my teeth all 150 miles of the trip home. But you know what, it actually pulled great and made it home without incident.

As for that motor...

I'll have a pro give it a quick check but I have little hope for it. All options on the table for now...

-rebuild what I have on there

-replace with a new/rebuilt/reconditioned I/O

-cut into the transom and install outboard

-bolt on a bracket and install outboard

Hey man, I hope we can still be iBoat friends even though I brought home an I/O.:D

Thanks! Man I love my little family of five!

Yah, I was doing a quick run through of all the stuff that is going to need to be done to it and Ryan pipes up and says "I'LL HELP YA DADDY".

He is a good man even at 3 years of age.

Yah, at that price I figured that it would be tough to be on the wrong end of the deal.

I am certain that I'll need the help of the great guys around here to put this thing back together!

Cheers!

Re: 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Anybody want to take a stab at what year my new Islander is???

I couldn't find a manufacture year or serial number on it yet.

I am guessing late 70's - maybe 76', 77' range. Whatdoya think?

Re: 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

mine has a stamp on the outside of the transom with the hull # which contains the yr. if not maybe look on the outdrive it might have a number that inicate the yr. other than that you might look in the starcraft forum there is a thread that as some different bourchures that might be able to pin it down.

Re: 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

My engine vote would be to NOT dump much money into the Stringer. If, by some chance, it could be made running and useable for no more than a couple hundie than go for it. Otherwise I'd convert it. I just don't want to see you put money into it just to be end up dry-docked because something no-longer-available decides to break.

As for to replace with another I/O or get and outboard bracket I just really don't know.
