Those numbers are fine. As long as each cylinder is within 10% of the other, high to low, you’re good.

As to the outdrive, it’s not a compression test, it’s a pressure test. Wait for the manual and it will spell it out step by step. In the meantime you can check the fluid in it and make sure it’s not milky white from water intrusion.

emoney thank for the info. i figured 10% was the range but this is my first boat. i rebuild car engines for fun so its similar with the range..... where can i check the oil i dont see a dipstick or a res anywhere

i saw a home made tester with a bike pump and tire valve with a gauge to check pressure . i can make one up easy i just dont see where i would connect it to

I have a video on my YouTube channel on pressure testing a drive... it's an alpha 1 gen 2 but basically the same procedure... I made my own adapter so you're on your own for that...

IMHO, I would NOT be painting the boat in any way now. You have Sooooo much work to do before you even THINK about the boat. Check the Transom NOW!!! I'm betting it is Rotten and needs to be replaced. If so then remove the outdrive and the motor. It'll make replacing the transom sooo much easier and it's easier to rebuild all the mechanicals once they've been removed from the boat. Once you're sure that the motor is solid and the outdrive too, Then and ONLY then would I start on the boat. Take a Bunch of measurements for Everything before your tear out anything. Then remove the deck, stringers and Transom Once the boat is gutted you can start the rebuild. Read and Study similar builds here on the forum so you'll see what you'll be doing. The guys on here have been there and done that and can guide you to a Great re-build.

Welcome Aboard.

Hello!

Just hopping on your thread now. Looks like a fun project. for pulling the engine, most of the cherry pickers dont have enough reach to get to the marine engine. I built a gantry hoist out of dimensional lumber and it worked great to get the engine out and in. Use a chain hoist for raise/lower. Ive attached an image of what I did, and here is a link to a youtube post that I got my inspiration from.

If the carb is in good condition overall and works well after a proper rebuild, don't change it. It would be very a very good idea to get a fuel & water seperating filter if you don't have one on it now.

On boats, you gain very little on 4 stroke motors on carb to fuel injection since it under constant load while in gear. So don't unless you got thousands of dollars to burn.

What you can do is install the correct Delco EST distributor ignition kit to get rid of points ignition. There are other electronic ignition kits, but the Delco EST is the closest to factory/OEM.

The boat was an eye sore.

I resealed the rivet with gluvit
2 layers

3 light layers of the paint

Did the roll and tip method

Replaced

Spark plugs
Points and conditions
Distributor cap
Spark plug wires
Ignition coil
battery

Rebuilt the carb myself I doubt I got it cleaned enough sadly.
I was able to put it back exactly how I took it out. I'm within specs on the brass float but it's my first time so I'm questioning myself.

I have these new parts waiting to be installed

Engine Oil and oil filter
Fuel/water separator filter
mechanical fuel pump ( old one was broken and some p.o.s electric is on it atm)
Coolant
Valve cover gasket
alternator belt
Waterproof trailer lights
Waterproof trailer 5 pin / junction box
trim limit switch

My next project atm

Remove fuel tank and deep clean.
Replace all fuel lines / filters / separators
Install fuel pump
Install carb and linkage.

Then test and adjust carb and points as needed

Paying 1850 for upholstery

I got quotes for 1600-2k from several people.

I'm missing one cushion. They will custom make one.

The wood is iffy on some of the chairs but they said they can re inforce it.

What is a good captains chair for this boat.
