Previous owner varnished the swimdeck so is now a mottled mess of peeling varnish and bare gray teak wood. What’s the proper way to get the deck down to clean bare wood and best finish to refinish with? And also best way to get between the slats?

Thanks

Sandpaper to get it off is no easy way. I like teak oil. I brush it on with a paint brush. Let it soak in a hour. It darkens the wood and gets the grey out. Scrub it with a green kitchen scub pad after the oil soaks in. The loose top layer of discolorization comes right off. I wipe it with a towel and re apply the oil then.

Do it once a year in the spring.

When I did my swim platform I used a palm sander. Used 50 grit first then 80 and finally 120. I put 6 heavy coats of teak oil on it, letting it dry between coats and a light sanding after each coat except the last coat.
