I’ve searched high and low looking for solutions. I inherited my dads boat when he passed away a few years back. I just wanted to get everyone’s experiences with fixing or painting their boat. I would love you repaint the boat but I’m unclear the steps to take. The paint on the gunwale is rough and the glitter flakes off. The hull of the boat is slick but oxidized badly. I know you can fix the hull easily but can the gunwales look the the hull?

I'm afraid the Metalflake Gelcoat is to far gone. You'll need to sand it off and start from scratch. It's NOT repairable.

I am currently in the middle of re-gel coating my boat (see signature)

you start by removing all hardware from the boat - everything down to a bare hull

you spend countless hours with 80 grit paper on a DA, getting all the bad oxidation down to good gel

and you spray gel with duratec 904 addative

then you wetsand with 800 grit and then buff to a shine.

then you re-assemble the boat

there is no shortcuts
