Hello everyone, I am rebuilding a 1956 Skagit 14-foot runabout. It came with a 55 horsepower Evinrude 3 cylinder 2 stroke. The shaft length was incorrect in relation to the transom depth. I'm trying to figure out what size engine to put on the boat. I looked in vain and could not find a coast guard tag with how many persons or horsepower rating the vessel is rated for. All I have is an original brass Skagit hull ID plate. I'm pretty desperate to figure out the correct engine size. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's a complete restore project and I just want to make sure I do everything right.

Basically a 14 ft boat, IMHO shouldn't run more than 30, 35, or 40 HP. Motor Leg length IS a critical issue, as well as displacement and weight capacity.

This should be informative...http:/
