The structure behind was my in-laws house. We knew it was destroyed. We are amazed the car is there. Also odd is that the plastic garbage cans behind the car seem to be unmelted.

Glad there's still some hope to salvage something. Fires suck big time.

I saw yesterday that the police are beginning to let a lot of people into their properties now. Maybe you guys will get up there soon. Odd is a gross understatement as to the nature of these fires and the way they burned.
I wish you good luck on the boat and trailer still being intact.

What a bummer , I was looking forward to seeing this old gal revived. I am curious , is that where the boat was parked ? I see green trees all around and yet the boat is melted, strange to say the least and in fact a little suspect. I have noticed many of the houses up there are the same, the shrubs next to the house are still green but the houses are burned to ashes , odd indeed .

Don't know if you are still watching this but there is another one in the CL here out of Redding that needs restoration and is for sale.

Thanks guys! I emailed about it and I asked for more photos of the engine. One thing I like about the El Dorado is the additional head space in the cabin. I am 6' 3" so in the cruiseliner it seems like I would be crawling.

Anyway, I have plenty to do. I need to cut up the wreckage. I will post pics :grumpy:. Plus I have the Blue Star Islander to work on...

This was a dream boat, but I know another will find its way into my heart...

I really hate to see you guys have to go through this . Did you have time to grab anything like family pictures or important papers before y’all had to evacuate ? Will you be rebuilding ?

Like Sam said...… tough to watch ya go thru this. More important people are safe.

Thanks for concern guys. It was my in-laws house -- I just had my boat and some tools there. But no, they didn't have time to gather important papers or photos. I have told them that I am impressed that they left as soon as they were told to go. I think too often my thought process is "lets not over-react, let's wait to see if it is really that bad." I need to change my way of thinking!

We were hoping to find photos, but no chance of that. So far, a few dishes were found and a few porcelain figurines. So we are scanning all of our pictures and will do our best to recreate a few photo albums for them. Plus once scanned, we can save everything and keep it safe...on the cloud or a hard drive kept elsewhere.

The family is starting to think against trying to rebuild. With my in-laws in their 80s and the time it will take, it may not make sense. Tough decisions, but the destruction is so widespread, it is hard to imagine how this community will recover.

We are heading back up there tomorrow ...

Well it’s been two years, and pulled the trigger on the replacement. I still need to bring it home- it’s sitting 500 miles away. I will start a new thread once I get started... maybe I’ll name her the Phoenix.
