good morning :)
i just registered and need help
i bought a 13' runabout and i need to replace the floor and stringers
as u will see on the pictures i have one keel stringer and two fiberglass pipes empty inside
i think that i have to make stringers but i dont know how to place them
the boat is 4' wide at the stern.im thinking of removing the fiberglass pipes and put the stringers long side from transom to bow as the keel stringer.
is that correct ?
im seeking any advice.
i bought all the materials to fiberglass the stringers and the deck

like i said the boat is 4' wide on the transom so 2' from the keel on both sides then goes narrower
do i need extra stringers at all ?
previous deck was 1/2" plywood covered with carpet
the foam im removing was soaking wet.im not going to pour another foam

welcome aboard

a few things

PM a mod to move over to the restoration forum.

all the answers you seek are in the DIY stickies in the restoration forum. specifically link 14, link 18, link 2, 3, 4a, and 4b. read them in that order. read them in their entirety and watch all the videos in link 14

https://forums.iboats.com/forum/boa...ion/boat-restoration-building-and-hull-repair

YES, you need stringers just like your body needs a spine, ribs and femurs. the stringers are the bones and strength of your hull

the foam is to keep your boat afloat. if you do a good job sealing, it will be around for your great grandchildren. I highly recommend adding foam back in.

im not asking for how to fiberglass just how to place them the fiberglass and the final i know how to.
i know how to fiberglass stringers, i know how to to fiberglass the deck
what im asking is is how to position the stringers
vertical or horizontal along the keel stringer ?
i dont think that this a problematic for boat owners who did the same thing

Actually you DON'T need stringers in that boat. The "Half Pipe" stingers you have are some of the strongest structural supports you can have. I'd recommend grinding the hull And all three of the stringer shells a bit and then add One or Two layers of 1708 so that it's about 6" out on the hull on both sides. It'll be a TANK!! How's your transom?

i bought
6" 1708 tape for the stringers and connecting the deck to the stringers
1708 50" wide for the deck lay out with 5/8 plywood
the edge of the plywood deck and the hull i will make butter to make a fillet to adopt the final 1708 with polyester resin
is that make sense ????
please be honest about my approach !!! :))))
im trying to make short as possible and i hope that u understand my approach
im not new with fiberglass work but new in stringers approach
any help will help :))

HEllo andrzej,

I'm also pretty new to boatting stuff but doing our own restoration.

I believe that the "pipe" or shell in your hull are doing the stringer job as woodonglass said.

If you don't want any foam back you'll need to add some support to your deck or it will flex.
The foam besides floatability also add compression resistance to the deck.

Ok If the keel stringer is lower it would be simple enuf to make a wood space and attach to top of Keel Stringer to make it all level. Your materials list is good. I suggest you read the 2nd link in my signature line below. It has a lot of good info for your work. Transom may look good but...the only way to know for sure is to drill some holes in the lower parts (1/4" drill bit and drill on the inside and only about 1" deep. Check the shavings and see if they are light colored and dry. If not...then it will need to be replaced. I also agree that once the deck is installed you should consider fillng the void with Closed Cell 2 part foam.

i gave up :((
i manage to work out with professionals
wow
the two side stringers r fiberglass stringers
thats why i was confused why they r empty inside
after removing all wet foam
i gave him the boat to fix and put new deck
i like this boat and i like to keep it
he will
sand off all areas of previous deck
fiberglass inside (under ) and seal of the deck (under the plywood ) 5/8 sanded fir
put new deck and fiberglass on top
with 1708
with laminating polyester resin
then
after i get back my boat i will laminate 3/4" plywood to support the pedestals for the seats
after that
gel coat everything after all done

thats my plan :)

I'm not sure why you feel you were left alone. Every one of your posts were answered and you were given the correct advice. Because this IS the best and Largest of ALL the Boat Restoration Forums, it takes a lot of time to go thru the Hundreds of Projects posted here. Just like any restoration, Patience is required. Your boat Already has "Stringers" The Half Circle structures are a type of stinger and unless they are delaminating from the hull you Don't need additional support.
But like I always say, It's your boat...and you're free to do with it as you see fit.
Good luck with your project

People were trying to help. Did you read the suggested links? Did you replace the foam? Did you check the transom? We try to help, but if you don't answer our questions, we can't answer yours.
