Now that that my floor board is still frozen and don't reveal any soft-spots, I have decided to; just using in the "frozen" condition. lol

The reason bayliner put plastic sheeting under the foam is so it would be much easier for the 2nd owner to remove it cuz its not stuck to the hull...

you're so right!!!

These guys from Bayliner did know what they were doing at the time.....and so considering toward the "next owner(s)"

Finally got the cap off and supported and ding ding ding behind door number 3 a rotten transom. Looks like they combined 4 pieces of 1/2 inch plywood to make the transom and then braced it on each side. I'm running a 115 hp mercury. It Weighs about 400lbs. Looks like they filled the gap between the top of the transom and cap with bondo...

So been awhile. Inside of the boat is sanded down to new fiberglass and the transom is built, ready to fiberglass in left stringer, I left one stringer in and will do them one at at time. Once the stringers and floor are done I am painting (I want to paint while the cap is off). I had a few questions re. painting the hull. The boat is painted above the waterline and gelcoated below. I plan to repair any cracks or gouges with a vinyl ester boat fairing filler, then sand the entire hull with 60 grit then move to 120 then 220. Then apply 3 coats of interlux interprotect 2000e and finish with interlux micron csc. then prime and paint cap with interlux perfection rolling and tipping. Does anyone have any tips are recommendations or changes to my plan that may make this go a bit smoother? Thanks.

Looks like originally vinyl ester. I am weary of polyester as I would like a bit more strength and durability than polyester but really dont want to get into the expense of epoxy. I'm in Canada and vinyl ester seems to be a bit difficult to get. I haven't found anyone that sells it. The local boat place only sells the west system epoxy.

Agree either will work, just know poly and vinyl will not stick very well to epoxy, but epoxy will stick the other way.

Epoxy you have to worry about blushing between coats

Yes, delamination is not not something I want to deal with. I got a quote for $542 for 5 gal (19 litres) of vinyl ester resin that includes a fee of $230 for shipping from Toronto....seems a bit steep for resin to me. Does anyone know of places that sell vinyl ester resin in eastern Ontario or southern quebec?

Too bad this didn't have a keel protector. Seems the previous owner liked the beach...I'm debating on using either 3m marine premium filler or epoxy thickened with cabosil to fix the missing gel coat and gouges. Then applying interlux interprotect then antifouling paint once I have it all sanded. Does anyone have experience with the 3m stuff? Its vinyl ester based and I hear it shrinks so I'm not sure if I want to use it below the water line. It's a bit easier to work with than epoxy I find. The previous owner tried to fix with marine tex. A lot of marine tex. This is my first rebuild so bare with me...

Gel is damaged but the glass isn't. Sand, clean and recover with gelcoat, or use epoxy paint and go boating.

Don't use bottom paint unless you want to keep painting it
