fuel tank advice

doin research on my 250 searay fuel system when deck is removed stringers transum replaced
wondering is I should replace fuel tank with plastic or aluminum again I removed the aluminum
tank also wondering if they can be tested or just go new its 88 model 30 year old didn't just want to
put back without testing checking other options benefits ect… thanks Roy

Inspect the tank for signs of corrosion. If the transom and stringers need to be replaced, then the tank has probably been sitting in water and will have pits eaten into the aluminum.

if so, then go ahead and replace the tank. If not, then you can pressure test the at at 3 psi ( low pressure) to see if it holds air.

The aluminum tanks usually get damaged from the outside. Epoxy coating the tank helps slow or stop this issue if water gets back in. Here is pics of my old tank which had not yet made a hole, but replaced any way

go with the poly tank if you halfta change it they will last forever or at least longer then you will most likely own the boat for
