Building a fishing boat with my 10 year old son. We live in Wisconsin and fish all over including lake Michigan, weather and waves permitting. Found a rather beat up 2001 mirrocraft 17 foot hull with nothing in it and built from there. I found a beautiful 90hp Merc with almost no hours for cheap. The goal here is to keep everything used and purchased locally or on craigslist. He must contribute to the cost of each item and help install it. I now need a kicker motor. The boat is narrow around 75" wide and 17 feet long. I have found a couple of 6hp rudes and some merc's for sale. We cant venture into the costs of a 4 stroke outboard as we want to keep this cheap. $500 or less. I would be interested how small i can go and I think the rudes are the smoothest 2 strokes out there in the 15+ year old range. I would appreciate anyones thoughts.
