Anyone familiar with the 23 ft open fisherman? Hull is very unique! Live in Houston so looking at using in the gulf for short distances and Galveston Bay. Yes, a lot of work is needed

Not too familiar with this boat but...It's a Nice looking hull and should do well in the Gulf. What Power are you planning on? Have you core sampled the Transom? Do you know the Storage and Maintenance History of the hull? Does the Deck have any soft spots?

Here's a description, this is being sold by a boat service shop here in Houston. I did see a thread on them restoring a malibu a few years ago, did not look too difficult (probably costly though). Only setback on this is no trailer, this could be costly.

23'FALCON MALIBU OPEN FISHERMAN..HULL ONLY,NO MOTOR OR TRAILER....PROJECT......GOOD HULL..GOOD TRANSOM,...BAD FLOOR...LARGE OPEN FISHERMAN...(MAYBE MAKE SHRIMP BOAT)...THESE ARE GETTING HARD TO FIND...WE HAVE RESTORED A BUNCH OF THESE BOATS. VERY STABIL OFFSHORE BOAT THAT WILL ALSO GO VERY SHALLOW....EASY PROJECT...NO TRAILER,BUT WE COULD DELIVER IF NOT TOO FAR...

Thanks

Yeah well, I'd be asking a LOT of questions. If they've done a bunch, they should be able to tell you what's involved for you to do it. IMHO the minimum would be Trailer $2.000, Motor $10,000, Repair work $5,000 Soooo about $17,500. What's a new one sell for? $17,5 might not be that bad, if a new one is $50K + If you do it right this one will be better than new!!!

Well for sure, you're gunna need a NEW Transom and more than likely a new Deck and Stringers/Bulkheads below deck. This will be a minimum of 200 man hours to restore Plus the Money I mentioned. Lots of Work and being 23 ft you'll need a BIG workplace. Do you have a place to put her so you can tear her down?

Have a storage facility, plenty of room if this works out. This is a Malibu restored by the shop

Well looks like they did a thorough job on that one. As you can see, there IS a LOT of work and Expense to bringing a boat of this size back to life. If you're up for it, you would have an outstanding boat.

Their ad does say good transom. Maybe they have done core samples.

The pic you posted of the transom sure doesn't make it look like a good to go transom. But the outside is NOT the best indicator of what the core is like.

Spoke with owner of the shop for a good while, says transom is solid and just needs cosmetic work. Deck needs replacing for sure and possibly the stringers. Also said his experience from restoring many of these will gladly be shared with me, too good of a boat not to be on the water.

That's good news. Still...there's a LOT of work to be done to get her back on the water.
