Hey guys I’m new to this. I picked me up a 16ft Starcraft sportsman, and tilt trailer. I’m intending to do a full remodel on it. I’m learning how to do all of it from this site, and YouTube. I’m very new to this but super excited. This unfortunately will be a very slow moving project as my regular life duties are very busy. I just wanted to start off with some photos. I’m open to any help or information. I’ve still been trying to locate all the specs on this boat for my own knowledge.

Im not sure on the year of the boat. Anyone with input or help I would greatly appreciate it.

That’s why I wanted to get on here. Any idea what years they made the sportsman? I try to research it but only come across the starcraft super sport. I was wondering what the standard set up is like for the decking etc.

It looks very similar to my Kingfisher.

Is there a Hull Identification Number on the starboard stern of the boat?

Would this be what your referring to or would it be something etched into the aluminum?

No, that looks like something that a PO put on there. Maybe a state supplied ID number?

The HIN that I mentioned would be a small aluminum plate up close to the top of the gunnel on the starboard side of the stern. But those HINs weren't required prior to 1972.

Did you receive a title for the boat?

I have to file for the title still they didnt have one. I am off at military training though right now. I have seen 2 people who list Starcraft Sportsman on here and they both say its a 1966.

The link below was one I found and thats my boat to a T. It even had the large center console aluminum still in it.

And just for information.
That number on the back. "INZ061286082" is a state issued HIN number, which would make sense if it's a 1966 boat.

INZ is the designation for Indiana Homemade Boat. Basically means state issued HIN,
Serial number (again, state issued) is "06128"
State issued year of manufacture is "6082", but that doesn't make sense and is an invalid HIN in any online decoder.
The format for date code around 1982, which is my guess based on last 2 digits being 82, is MMYY, so I THINK the previous owner who put those stickers on got the 6 and 0 backwards, and it's supposed to be "0682".
That would mean the HIN was assigned in June of 1982. (Has nothing to do with the actual year of the boat.)

The HIN "INZ061280682" does work through online decoders, but all it says is it was manufactured in 1982.
Agian, that's just the year the state issued the HIN.

If the PO did swap the 6 and the 0, I'd wonder if they swapped any other numbers by mistake.
In any event, that INZ number is in fact the Indiana state issued HIN number for that boat.

Just in case that's of any use to you... :D
