Hi I've been looking through the site for the last couple of months. Picked up a project boat (76 StarCraft 18 ft SS with a 135 Johnson) and have it down to the hull. I am now getting started on putting it back together. Naturally as this is my first time doing this I will be looking for advice / information along the way and this site seems to be a good place to look for it.

At this point I have the floors cut the transom glued and I am starting to think about seating and storage which is not as simple as it sounds. The hull is actually pretty good other than the transom skin is not quite flat and PO chewed up the splash-well.

I think I will be allowed to post photos now which will help. Started out looking for an 18 ft SS or something similar couldn't find one that was good to go so I ended up with a project boat. So read quite a bit on this site and started tearing it down (the easy part) So I'm at the point where I am about ready to flip it over and do something with the paint. Not really wanting to strip it down more like a sand it up prime the bare spots and paint.

Other things that I have decided on are varnishing the plywood and vinyl on the floor interior hull and top of the gunnels.

Repair the splash-well

New fuel tank (custom under deck aluminum) near the stern I think

Probably 4 pedestal seats maybe a bench seat?

Still up in the air what I want to do with the bow seating ? storage? trolling motor?

And then all the other trim and accessories after that

Ok I was wrong about the photos

One more post and you get photos. Got to make three post. Then the little magic camera Icon for posting photos appears.

So put the new transom in today Now I,m looking for some opinions on what to do about some holes and mounting for speedo & transducer. So I was thinking about just drilling the holes out and putting in solid rivets. The other thing I was thinking about was riveting on a formed alum plate to mount transducer & speedo to. Anyone tried this comments. View attachment Mounting Bracket-Layout1.pdf

Hi from Georgia. Same boat here, 75 model. I'll be watching this thread with great interest, especially when you tackle the floor. My floor is bouncy in the rear corners, so I'll be ripping up the carpet soon. I just stripped and painted mine, so if you need a spirit guide for that part, I'm glad to help. You might as well sand it down to the metal, as long as you have it flipped. I had pretty good results with a spray primer and a roller, but only after the stubborn old paint finally came off..

Here's how it went down: http://djcamera.com/boatpaint/

So good luck and I'll be following along.

Oh, and are you intentionally making your photos sepia-tone?

So in the process of getting a fuel tank under the floor not a lot of room for one though. So I think I need to go to a custom tank.I've been busy measuring and drafting,

I would like to have some feedback to make sure I am not doing anything stupid with the design.

Tank would be fabricated from 1/8" 5052 aluminum and mounted so all the fittings are under the splash-well probably need to fab something to cover the fittings after installation. Not sure about mounting it I was thinking about coating the bottom of the tank and top of the ribs with gluvit and then gluing a soft rubber to bottom of tank & top of ribs with 5200 to exclude water between the rubber and aluminum. Is this the right way to go about it? Please see attached drawing.

So here are some photos of the lower bracket (bottom of transom) that I riveted back in I needed to pull the transom straight in order to rivet this back together half of the rivets had failed leaving a 1/4 inch gap between the bracket & transom skin

My splash-well was a chewed up mess where the steering cable came through, I ended up riveting in a new panel

Hi I encountered a problem when cleaning the inside of the hull. When I ran the water vinegar solution between the inner brace and the hull I had a few beads of water appear-how can I seal this with out ripping things apart?

Hi Eric couldn't argue with that so a bunch of cleaning and sanding and 3/4 of a liter of gluvit later we have moved on.

So started reassembling showing some of the styrofoam and the fuel tank installed. Used a urethane adhesive to help hold the tank in place and gluvit to protect against corrosion
