Hi all.
Well i have been lurking around here for a long time, love to look at boats from the 50's and 60's i find they had stile compared to today's lake and river boats.
So i have never owned a boat but have had a few different canoes over the last 30 years fished out of em on some fair sized lakes and rivers, but we getting
older and the body don't like no more.
So got me an old fiberglass boat whit trailer and (junk motor) for scrap money.
Will redo boat as a open deck fishing boat. The thing came whit the original 1965 Johnson 40hp electromatic outboard but it was scap - not one internal part would move,
it sat to long whit no plugs out side under a three. the replacement is a 1965 sears elgin 20hp tiller (west bend) that runs if a bit hot and rough, but it will do for now.
Just as a reference aluminium boats of even old vintage and beat up got for way to much money around here.

Welcome aboard !
Wondering if you like the old vintage boat styles why cut it up and modify the looks ?
Nothing wrong with opening it up to make it serve your needs though ... A lot of guys have taken old run abouts and made em into nice fishing rigs !
Looks like you have hollow stringers ... I would grind and clean up the old loose glass and re-glass the stringer system back to the hull ... New transom and deck and your on your way ... :welcome:

Hi, i like the looks of the old runabouts but what i really wanted was a utility boat whit rear side benches, but what i got is this, so i get a nice flat floor and will install
swivel seats.

as for the stringers, they where wood and only had a 4 to 6 inches of glass at each end wood was mostly gone when i got under the floor it was not protected and all
the floor had was the original vinyl, 5 stringers side to side.

Transom and stringers cut and test fitted.

Those are called bulkheads ... Stringers run bow to stern .... I would not use the osb .... It's not very good for the marine environment ...
Nice hull to make a fishing rig into !

Yes i do like the hull, as for the osb it is just template wood, using good 6 and 7 layer ply for the build, epoxy and 6 oz cloth as i just cant work whit a mask on or i would use poly and 1708. and save me some cash.

Custom tow bar on trailer, 3 inch to 2 inch to reduce the weight at the front, had to keep some of the 3 inch for the tilt mechanism or i would have had to modify that part to 2 inches also, this to me was the simplest way to do it with the minimum of modifications. More work on the boat this week-end.

More work done, epoxy-ed the transom in place and put resin on the other side of interior pieces of the puzzle i call a boat.

Looking back now i could have tabbed in the bulkhead pieces in and epoxy-ed them, oh well will know next time.

Hi, got some work done.

Bulkheads are glassed in. Unfortunately i may have forgot to take pic cause can't find one.

Transom and floor are also glassed in place, i do have a pic, a bit dark cause i got done at around 04:00 am

Lots done today or rather yesterday, grinded the gel off of what i keep of the cap all around, that was not a fun job......ha.

Feels good to get that much done, my lower back on the other hand is not in agreement , got old and i had forgotten until now.......ha.

it now looks like i may use this thing before the water turns to ice again and we become land locked for the winter, maybe.
