Wondering what to use for my transom im thinking exterior grade plywood or ?? A coworker that was a service righter at a marina told me that they used to use some kind of poly or composit style wood (fake plastic stuff). On the up side I would only need to do this once but is it strong enough, and hold up to the uv etc.

Depending on what the composite is it Could be but...Unless you can give us the name of the stuff there's no way to know. Ext. Grade plywood Properly sealed and cared for will last for decades.

Yes it is a 77 starcraft kingfisher 16 ft aluminum. Im "restoring" it new floor, new console, new transom, new paint, new lots. I don't know if its worth it but I think it is.

"Worth it" is in the eye of the beholder since you'll never get out of it what you put into it. Unless of course you're counting smiles. Those could certainly be in abundance.

Cool beans!

I have a 1976 Kingfisher which is the "1976 Starcraft Kingfisher Frugal Functional Fix-up" in my sig line. Been working on it off and on for a couple years now and it's a good little boat. I'm currently working on replacing the transom so that I can install a 50HP Mercury motor. :joyous:

Lots of great help here on the forums! The folks really helped me a lot and continue to do so. Especially the Starmada. But beware of the Mob!

And we love pictures here, so post some up when ya can! ;)

Well its out and transom boards rough cut. Sealing the boards then ill garilla glue all 3 pices together and then cut to size and seal the hell out of it. Then paint:D:D Im thinking red top and inside and blue bottom. 20170504_152451.jpg

Ok so I got all the paint and junk stripped off or the aluminum on the transom. But I have pitting and I think its rather large and some holes go all the way through and most of the pitting is on the inside. Do I put a thick liquid coat of epoxy on the complete and sealed transom right before I install and squeeze the wet epoxy into all the pitting to "bond" it into one? Or do I ignore it?

And I still have the splash gaurd in the rear and plan on keeping it. In my transom I have the 2 drains one on each side. My question is what should I do with these drains. Im thinking drill the holes just large enough to seal the inside of them and then 5200 the drains in. and call that good. Or do I fab up something custom?

So I ran out of drive, got married, and now am trying to get the motivation up to put some hours in and fix it. Whats a good option for repairing the pits in the transom? Just JB weld and time or can I use the epoxy im sealing the transom with to "glue /seal " the transom into place?
