Decided to place 3" Dia x 7.5" long P/S HX on top of the 3" Dia x 18" long engine HX
waiting for the stepped hose joiners
need to weld up some of the stainless steel fittings, however will tack them in place with arc and get them tig welded

Will run the Jabsco crank mounted pump as the raw sea water pump, seen as its new and I have it
The pumps output is
1000 rpm 4 gallons
4000 rpm 24 gallons

had a rethink about cooling system
decided to change things around a little
upgraded sea water hose now feeding into side of sea strainer to 1.25"
water existing sea strainer in bottom, managed to get the S/S fittings to work
so now just need 1" hose through to crank mounted sea pump

welded in 1/2" T fitting between sea strainer and sea pump, and have order 1/2" adjustable relief valve

P/S and engine HX plumbed up just need to order some 1" hose between sea pump and lower HX
Need to think about where to locate the Mercuiser closed water HX, although quite like where its mounted now off the back of engine as close to the HX as have plenty of room behind engine, as opposed to placing the HX in front of engine

Looking to mount engine remote oil filters next

Was thinking I'll drop in the Gale Banks turbo setup onto the Gen VI 502ci engine as its already to go

unfortunately off to India next week for a week, so no boat building will take place
have 2 days to think about what parts I need to acquire to keep going over xmas while everything is shut down until 7/1/19

However plenty of stuff to do, as need to give inside floors final sand and apply last Flocote

Yes I think I'll take the turbo's off the 454ci as in picture and put the gear onto the 502ci

I would mimimize the reductions you have in the plumbing

when in doubt, go bigger.

the 90 degrees are all short sweep. lots of head loss

fetch

Its been a while since posting update
managed to construct the bulkhead between engine bay/seats
came out a little heavier than I would of like used 40mmx18mm merbu hardwood to build frame, then used pvc gurit 1/2" board laminated CSM 600grm on both inner faces then 1 layer of 600grm CSM and 600 grm biaxle cloth of both outer surfaces
Very strong
weighs 36lb
ready for primer

need to turn attention to making single hatch cover
been looking at different stainless steel hinges and whether to use a ram
I'm estimating the weight is going to be 75lb
size 76" wide x 43" long

Still sitting on beach in Boracay Phils soaking up the sun and downing a few San migual beers
thinking about constructing the engine hatch with single ram

NPT/AN fittings turned up last week for plumbing hydraulic steering pump

Do I need to run inline filter between hydraulic pump and pressure side of steering helm ?
Was going to modify GM Saginaw pump reservoir with AN fitting welded in and run 2 litre header tank to ensure sufficient hydraulic fluid in system
running HX so should be able to keep fluid temp cool
thought I would ask now ?

Buy a saginaw remote case with the fittings you want. You can also buy a remote reservoir. Usually it comes as a kit. Look at the hot rod or race sites

You will need to run an OC

sorry must be too much sun where i am not thinking clearly
yes have that covered its the blue cooler above the mercruiser HX should be plenty big enough
do I need to run filter, not sure where the debris will come from that I'm suppose to be filtering?

I suppose you could run a filter, however the pump is sloppy enough, it generally doesnt care. 99.99# of PS systems do not have any filtration. just check the fluid periodically.

so I need to run the largest flow valve for the Saginaw pump
i think this was 3.5 gallons /min which I’m assuming would be close to mercruiser output ?

mercruiser and volvo all used saginaw pumps as the pumps come with the motors. they just used a 900 psi regulator (FYI - ford used a 900psi regulator too on saginaw pumps)

run the regulator for the pressure you need.

Well its been a while since my last update, too much travel with work, holidays and everything else getting in way of working of the boat
Summers gone and Autumn is here time to go to work

Been messing around with fuel tanks
I had 2 saddle tanks here which I purchased few years ago from another chap, however they are going to be too tall so will need to get some custom tanks made from 4mm aluminium
would like to get 100 litres/tank

therefore started playing around with available space, to see how it would work out
used mdf as template and then made 2 fibreglass boxes up and fibreglassed inside to see how the dimensions would work out
With a little fine tuning had come with final design
brimful capacity approx. 114 litres (24 Gallons imperial)
This gives me sufficient space to mount batteries in front of fuel tanks below heat exchanges

Have located 3 local fabricators to get some quotes expect to be paying A$1100-1300 for the twin saddle tanks
Im assuming should mount them on some neoprene, and then bolt them to floor and gunnel

Had to lengthen tank and shorten height as need to work in sufficient clearance for engine hatch
would like to use a valve/pump and move fuel from one tank to the other, and possibly need to think about latter as may decide to run EFI instead of carb so will need to add a small swirl tank somewhere

fuel tanks which were drawn up by myself, excuse my lack of CAD skills
114 litres brimfull capacity should be sufficient each side

they may cost US$850 for the pair not sure how that compares with USA prices
however tanks need to be custom made to suit boat shape etc
I just realised the end view is arse about face on one of the sketches.. never mind Im sure the fabricated can understand

I have 2 mercruiser heat exchangers so have decided to run them both for closed cooling
made up 2 into 1.25: stainless T fitting to take water from power steering HX into both Mercruiser engine HX

would it be cheaper just to send off dimensions and have one made then having tto ship and alter the other ones?

Engine cooling system:
Have been reviewing what equipment I have and what is need to ensure I get the engine oil temps up to acceptable temperature so not running the oil to cool
The engine sump being used is 12 litres capacity
engine cooler: 3" x 18"
plan to use AN 12 lines
No room for spin on oil filter, its too tight between the stringers as engine is mounted lower in boat, so need to run remote filter setup
Have plenty of remote twin filters
and engine mount
Purchased remote oil thermostat from Improved racing #FSM185, therefore bypass the engine cooler until oil temps get + 185 F, then oiler cooler can come into stabilise the oil temperatures

http://www.improvedracing.com/oil-thermostats/high-flow-engine-oil-cooler-thermostat-p-212.html
I also plan to Accusump accumulator as pre-oiler

so need to now decide how to plump all this up using AN12 hoses
