58 Lonestar Aluminum Malibu Runabout Boat 14 foot- is a 1968 50 HP Merc Too Big?

I purchased this boat with a non-running 40 HP Motor and found a good deal on a 50 HP 1968 2-Stroke Outboard Motor. There is no coast guard rating listed on the boat. Does anyone know if the Transom will support this and will it be too much power? I am wondering if anyone has physically tried a motor of this size on this boat? It is a short shaft 50 HP

The malibu is only rated for 18-40 hp motors. Check out www.fiberglassics.com under the lone star section. They have pictures of the original brochures with the hp rating listed. I have heard of people using slightly larger motors but I personally wouldn't risk it. I have a malibu also and will be going with the original 35hp lark.
