I have a 2001 Trail Rite single axle trailer with a 3500lb square axle and open eye slipper springs. My boats is a 2001 18' Mariah Shabah 182 and the weight is about 3000lbs. My question is since the springs have 3000lbs of boat plus whatever the trailer weights on them 90% of the time and the max limit is 3500lbs per pair would it be better to put a 4000lb pair on so they are not almost maxed out.

The trailer weight capacity rating is based on the load carrying of the axle and tongue. You could put 6K springs on it but the week spot remains the axle. I'm finding your boat weight listed as 2650 dry. Having 300 on tongue leaving 2700 (full load boat), the 3K springs should be good. Using 4k springs will make it ride stiffer

+1^^^ Take your vehicle/trailer to a scale and weight twice. Once full rig, then vehicle only. My trailer has it's tare weight labeled. Tire load rating is also critical. Check their sidewalls for max load, and be sure to inflate to the pressure indicated.

If the springs appear to be in good shape, I would spend my money elsewhere.

The springs are 19 years old so I'm sure there not what they use to be. Can't find anyone who knows much about this type of spring but they look sprung to me.

Structurally they look fine, but stretched out that far kind of makes me think the springs are at there limits. Don't see them breaking but the boat is kind of heavy for them.

Those are open eye

That's why I was thinking about going up to 2000lb spring from what I believe is a 1750lb.
no info on the springs or readable on the trailer info plate I'm pretty sure this is the original trailer for this boat
