I have a 2003 200 hp hpdi yamaha motor recently after cruiseing for a 1/2 hr or more the motor would hiccup then resume normal speed however after slowing down to say trolling speed the motor would run ok for a few minutes then start to hiccup a few times then stall out like im out of fuel . the primer bulb would be like sunken in after massaging the primer bulb to pump a little fuel the motor it would start back up again for a few minutes then stall all over again. this is the second time this has happened to me the first time after getting back to the dock I had changed the fuel seperator filter and all was ok for a few trips then it started up again , this time I changed the fuel seperator filter again although it was only about a month old I emptied the fuel filter and it did have a little grit in it but i don't believe it was enough to actually clog the filter and starve the motor any Idea's ?
Do you have an old gas tank? Sounds like you shook some grit loose and its clogging you up. I imagine their is a fuel filter on that motor as well?? If so make sure both seperator and fuel filter are clean.
I had the same problem yesterday after hitting some serious waves. CLogged both my filter and the connector coming out of the tank.
think about what ya typed.
you mostly solved your own issue if you will simply think.
if the primer is sucking flat it means the fuel pump is sucking like crazy.
it also means the fuel restriction is between the primer and the liquid level in the tank.
see how simple this stuff is
you may also wish to change the medium pressure filter and clean the VST filter as they dont tolerate trash well.
they have nothing to do with the primer but they dont tolerate trash.
Thanks Rodbolt , I will be checking my fuel lines from the tank connection to the engine . I'll almost bet my problem is under the deck where like the saying go's (outta site outta mind) I did cut apart the fuel seperator filter and found it to be very clean nothing between the paper folds .
