Yamaha fuel gauge problem

My fuel gauge on 1999 115 Yamaha Saltwater Series is stuck on full. This is the multi function digital gauge w/trip,time,volts and speed.I have disconnected the the green and black wires on the tank, cleaned and reinstalled. When either wire is disconnected the bar gauge goes to empty. Everything else works. Any suggestions?

A good possibility the tank sending unit is the problem. The guage is reacting properly to the signal it is getting.

1997 200 SW IITeleflex info at www.teleflesmarine.com marine fuel systems says reading on sending unnit should be Empty=240, 1/2=103 and full=33.Digital gage reads two bars remaining and I only can take 45 gal in a 126 gal tank. The sender now reads 147 ohms. That indicates less than half a tank.Any hints? How is the sending unit matched to the Yamaha digital gage?
