Yamaha 40 hp fuel filter

I have a 2001 Yamaha 40 hp 4 stroke. It's seen little use but the fuel filter is a no name inline type and hasn't been changed for a long time since it's very dirty. Does anyone have an opinion of whar filter to use or will any 1/4" inline that is of the same relative size work? I would really like the Yamaha part number of the OEMfilter but can not seem to locate it any where on line.

get the water/fuel separator from Walmart for $25, mount it on your transom, save yourself a lot of fuel related problems. It'll be the best preventive maintenance dollar you ever spend. Good luck!
