wiring for 89' yamaha pro 50

I just traded a snow blower for this motor, and all the wiring for the control's are not hooked up. All I really want to do is check to see if it turns over or mabye fire's? This may sound a little "not smart" but the main power wire coming from the battery to the starter is that the hot or ground wire, the previous owner has cut them down so no marking's show? And do I need to hook any other wire's up just to see if the starter will turn it over and fire? Thank you in advance

battery + to start relay
and the other large relay post to the starter
battery - to motor ground

jumping the relay or energizing it should turn motor over

It should spark when turning,
but if it starts you would need to have a way to turn it off, grounding the white wire to CDI will kill the spark

Hey captain if you dont mind i have a similar question about the same exact motor i have the harness from the remote control unit plugged into the motor and i have the battery lines do they run straight from the battery and connect straight to the motor ground and the starter relay or do they tie in to the remote control harness some how? Any help would be greatly appreciated the motor is on a 15ft cajun bass boat if it matters thanks for any help
