Default Where to get signal for tach

I would like to install a tach on my 2002 50hp yamaha 50trla. But for the life of me i can't find where to pick up the signal for the tach. The engine is on a 2003 G3 V167C. Engine ser# is 450436

This is the kit i'm thinking about getting. I think it will work. Your thoughts??

ok, yamaha uses grey for the tach signal, don't know what color g3 uses, just see what connects to the grey wire on yamaha side, this is the tach lead.... this kit will work...you connect it directly to engine lead, no need to use g3 wiring.

for that kinda money it should install itself. ther is a way to test harness for a wire with a variable pulse with engine running, i would start with grey on yamaha and yellow on suzuki. then there is also a setting on tach it self which has to do with number of poles on stator

No a tach for a car will not work on your boat. Get a 7k tach - 7000 is for outboards and 6000 is for I/O - they are pretty easy to install, if I can do it .. anyone can.

You will want to set you MARINE tach's pole setting to 6 pole....there will be dip switches on the back and will probably come with some
    simple instructions....this engine is a 6 pole, most Yama's are 12 pole.
