vent screw on top of 6 hp Suzuki 4 stroke?

I just bought a used 6 hp 4 stroke Suzuki kicker motor and have a question.I got no owners manual and would like to know how the vent screw works on the top of the gas cap.. If you screw it all the way in, does this open or close the vent or vice versa? Also does this need to be open or closed when not using the internal gas tank and on the 3 gallon portable tank? Thanks in advance.

Turn left (counter clockwise) to open and right (clockwise) to close...just like a faucet. Yes, close the vent when not in use to reduce moisture from the air mixing with the gas.
