    Default Suzuki/Evinrude Four Stroke 70

tripperk Member # 47368 posted August 03, 2004 07:19 PM-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My outboards computer is setting to envinrudes "S.L.O.W." operation mode imediatly on start-up. I am told by the dealer that since there is a immediate alarm with no warm-up (even after a battery re-set) the it is likely a bad sensor. The blinking error code on the dash is indicating "13" which is not listed in my shop manual. I have purchased the computer software to talk to my engine so I can diagnose the problem better. However, my dealer wants $208.88 for the interface cable. I'm looking for anyone who can give me an idea of what code 13 is, how I could find it using a method other than interfacing with my engine's ECU or preferably give me a pin-to-pin diagram of the interface cable (evinrude 4-stroke - to - serial) so I can make my own. DHPMARINE Member # 36090 posted August 03, 2004 09:04 PM-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Has Omc,now BRP stopped support on this engine? Will the dealer use his cable? Some of these cables I won't purchase until I see the need (at least a handful of motors I have to diagnose.)At least some of these 4strokes are Suzuki.Maybe one of their dealers can help.DHP moderator1 Member # 17886 posted August 03, 2004 09:10 PM-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- tripperk,I am going to duplicate this post in the Suzuki area, since the engines are the same. Perhaps someone there may have some information.

What is serial and model number of engine? Keep bumping to top, may take a few days to get information.

You need the computer to find out which error code has been imprinted into the outboard's black box. I've seen a few shorted exhaust cover temp senders that gave the same symptoms as you are describing.

Like the Yamaha computer interface cable, there is a "black box" attached to the Evinrude/Suzuki cable, plus some extra leads, so you cannot just make one for yourself. I don't have a 1999 70hp manual handy so I can't offer any info right now on your code. After the weekend, I'll do some digging for you.

There is no code 13 in service manual, also some of the service information and changes are a little foggy. This engine should not blink a service code on the tach, only the Suzuki have this function. Explain how engine preforms. Engine misfire and only 3000 rpms is caused by defective/maladjusted switch on the shift linkage. These engines have had some computer problems, temp sensors, hard shifting. What about waranty?

Chances are your flashes are for code 31. That is for the idle air control valve. it may be sticking, obstructed, dirty, or way out of adjustment. The flashing lites may be in sequence of III I III I III, etc. and can easily be mistaken for a 13.Perform the tests and checks that are in the service manual or find a QUALIFIED individual to check it out for you.
