Pruchased a new Starcraft 178 Fishmaster this past September. The dealer took my '99 Yamaha F100 off my old rig (another Startcraft) and installed it on the new boat. Here's the problem: Trailering the boat home, the motor would not stay centered, instead it kept flopping to the side (I use a transom saver). Then when I took it for a ride before storing for the season, I noticed the steering is much, much looser than it was on the old rig.... to the point that it pulls to the side if I was to let go of the wheel. How do I go about tightening the steering down so this does not occur? "Old" steering was standard Teleflex rack & pinion, installed new in '99.
Yoopster,There may be a tension adjustment on the steering head. The engine "pulling" can be corrected by an adjustment of the trim tab.I lash the steering wheel, while trailering, to something in the boat so that it remains straight.
