Default Starter question / Yamaha 8hp

Just bought 98 Yamaha 8. A marina was selling it for an individual. They claimed it had alternator and electric start. It had a starter wire coiled up for battery connection, so I didn't question it. When I got it home I looked and noticed that there is no starter, only a bullet connector to plug one into. Questions.....How much should I plan on spending for a starter? How can I determine if it has an alternator? Thanks much....Gary

If you have wires like battery wires coming out of the unit, then you more than likely have a charge coil on the engine for battery charging. Not gonna charge a hold bunch but enough to run some nav lights. As for starter, you would probably pay as much for installing it as you paid for the engine.
