Serial Number for Yamaha Outboard

Wondering if anyone knows how to decipher the serial number for a Yamaha Outboard. I have checked the motor up and down and have not been able to find the year and horsepower info.Model: V6EXCELLGserial: 6K7 L 300928What do the letters in the serial and model # mean? Any help would be much appreciated....

try this:Yamaha Model DesignationImbedded in the model number is the horsepower and year of the engine.For example: If your model number is 115TRR your engine is a 1993 115hp engine.The first numbers are the engine hp.The last letter corresponds to the year listed in the chart below. 1984(N) 1985(K) 1986(J) 1987(H) 1988(G) 1989(F) 1990(D) 1991(P) 1992(Q) 1993(R) 1994(S) 1995(T) 1996(U) 1997(V) 1998(W) 1999(X) 2000(Y) 2001(Z) Oh, oh. Sure you have a Yamaha? Sure you read the serial # correctly?

thanks, I positive it is a Yamaha...That numbering scheme doesnt seem to correspond to this one...

Being a foreign motor,the standard Yamaha code doesn't apply...using the foreign designation it looks like a 1986 225hp extra long shaft,electric start..
