I recently bought a 14' 2005 sundance skiff CC with original 2005 yamaha 30hp 4 stroke. Only took it out once and went a little to far, ran out of gas. Oops. Anyways the guy I bought it from told me that it had been sitting for a few months, and now that the fuel tank is empty I was thinking about a fuel additive to go with fresh gas. Considering my motor, and that it had been sitting, what would be good choice?
The Stabil Fuel Stabilizer and Seafoam are both well proven and accepted fuel additives. I personally use the Stabil and Yamaha Ringfree all the time, and a Walmart/Attwood fuel/water separator type canister filter($28), to pretty well eliminate fuel related problems. Learn to drain your carbs float chambers a couple of times a year and you should be home free! Good Luck!
Yep, Seafoam has been around a long time, and MAY be a better cleaner AND stabilizer than the Stabil, which I believe is mostly just stabilizer. Google: Marine Fuel Additives, for lots of info regarding ingredients and applications....I believe at least 75%+ of outboard problems are fuel related, so it's good to take some extra time and effort in the fuel delivery area....Good Luck!
