    Default How did it happen

Took the boat out yesterday for a afternoon ride with the family. Motor starts first crank as usual, idols fine until we all get in. Start up getting on plane and motor dies. This is not my boat it just does not shut off like that. To make a long story short, it will not fire up beyond running for about 3 seconds. Today I figure Ill change water sep. filter. I poor the contents of the filter in a mason jar. 75% water. Hmm. Change it still will not start so im think somehow my fuel has gotten contaminated. Now I use my boat regularly and use stabil. Go thru several tanks of fuel a month. So I take my carbs off and empyu contents in mado jar 90% water!. Whoa Im thinking what the heck. So I figure Ill drain the tank. I start draining the tank and start off putting it in a clear container and its the best looking gas I have seen. I drain it all and no water! So now I am left to figure out how my carbs got water in them. We did just go thru a tropical storm with several days of heavy rain. Some rain was sideways so I am wondering if the rain could have somehow made its way thru the vent in the cowling and gotten into the carbs somehow? Any Ideas. i know how to fix the problem just wondering how it happened

How did you drain the tank?
Did you look into the bottom to see if any water was down on a corner?
water will be at the bottom of tank.
When everyone loaded up into boat the balance/level of the boat shifted and caused the water to move where the pick up tube would suck it up.
I would drain tank and then clean and dry it.

No way to get water into carbs and filter without coming from tank

I siphoned the tank to the point of very little fuel. then added a few gallons an the siphoned it from the fuel hose that goes to the water sep. filter. Then added more fuel with a little k100 and new filters and siphoned a bit in a mason jar and got good fuel. Now its running like it should.

you could still have a chunk of water rolling around in the bottom of the tank waiting to hit the pick up tube when boat leans in the right direction. good luck
